Ponte Vedra Beach, FL -- (Sports Network) - The PGA Tour has released its 2009 schedule, but the final event hasn't been finalized at this point. The date for the Tour Championship is still being negotiated. That event will take place either September 17-20 or September 24-27. "While we have a couple of late-season scheduling issues to resolve, we felt it was best to release the majority of what we believe is an outstanding schedule for 2009 that is fully sponsored," stated PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. "We are very pleased to officially welcome the Valero Texas Open to the FedEx Cup schedule after performing exceptionally well during the Fall Series. The date change, combined with its planned move to the new TPC San Antonio in 2010, bodes extremely well for its future." The 2009 season begins with the normal two-week Hawaii swing. Three of the next four events will be in California. The other event will be the FBR Open in Arizona, which again will be played on Super Bowl weekend. The first World Golf Championship event, the Accenture Match Play Championship, will be contested February 25 - March 1. The Mayakoba Golf Classic in Cancun will again be the opposite event that week. Following those two events, the tour moves to Florida for four tournaments. The Honda Classic will be the only event between the first two WGC events as the CA Championship will be contested one week after the Honda Classic. The CA Championship moved up two weeks on the docket and to make room for that move, the Transitions Champions, which was the PODS Championship last year, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational will be played a week later than in 2008. The Houston Open again follows the Arnold Palmer Invitational and serves as the final tune-up for the Masters, where Trevor Immelman will defend his title at Augusta the weekend of April 9-12. The Zurich Classic, one of four events with big date changes, will be played two weeks after the Masters as opposed to two weeks before the Masters in 2008. The Texas Open will be played May 14-17 after being part of the Fall Series in '08. It will be followed by the Byron Nelson Championship, which moved back four weeks from last year and will be the second of three straight events in Texas. The U.S. Open again finishes on Fathers Day, June 21. Tiger Woods, knee permitting, will defend his title at Bethpage Black. Woods beat Phil Mickelson there in 2002. Padraig Harrington will defend the first of his two major championship titles July 16-19 at the British Open. The Open Championship will be played at Turnberry in 2009. Nick Price won the title in 1994 the last time Turnberry hosted the Open. Two weeks later will be the Buick Open, which is being played five weeks later than last season. The final WGC event is the following week with the Bridgestone Invitational. Harrington will defend his title at the PGA Championship the following week at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota. Rich Beem fended off Woods in 2002, the last time the PGA was contested at Hazeltine. The Wyndham Championship follows the PGA and after the Wyndham will be the first three FedEx Cup Playoff events - The Barclays, the Deutsche Bank Championship, which will again finish on Labor Day, and the BMW Championship. Once the date for the Tour Championship is finalized, the dates for the Fall Series events will announced. The United States will defend its Presidents Cup title the weekend of October 9-11 at Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco.
