Jermont Terry

Jermont Terry joined the WXII 12 News team in December 2007. You can catch Jermont as he reports weekdays for WXII 12 News at 5, 6, and 11. Since arriving in the Triad, Jermont has covered stories with true impact on people in the community.

In spring 2008, Jermont was the first reporter at the scene of the Sauratown Mountain fire where several homes were threatened by a raging wildfire.

Jermont came to the Tar Heel State by way of the Bluegrass State. He spent four years working as an investigative reporter at WKYT and WDKY, the CBS and Fox affiliates in Lexington, Kentucky. During his time at the Horse Capitol, the Kentucky Associated Press honored Jermont with an award for best investigative story. Jermont’s contribution during the “Flight 5191 Coverage” of a deadly plane crash in Lexington, where 49 people died in 2006, led to an Edward R. Murrow award for continuing coverage.

Jermont also spent time working the crime and government beats at WLFI-TV in West Lafayette, Indiana. He started his journalism career on the AM/FM dials in his home state of Illinois while attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Chicago native graduated with a bachelors of science in broadcast journalism from the College of Communications at UIUC.

Jermont is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists. When he’s not working you can find him relaxing in Winston-Salem and around the Triad. The avid music lover enjoys concerts and flying back to Chicago whenever he can to hang out with his family. Jermont is always looking for the good story.
