Brian Slocum is the newest WXII 12 Weather Plus meteorologist, joining the station in July 2005.

Like many meteorologists, Brian Slocum can trace his love for weather to an isolated incident when he was young. He was 8 years old, playing outside on a hot summer day near his suburban Chicago home, when the sky began to change to an eerie shade of green. Instead of moving indoors, he hopped on his bike and pedaled TOWARD the approaching storm. Fortunately, he didn't get very far before he was stopped by his father. Good thing, too -- the storm spawned a tornado not far from his home. Brian has been hooked on severe weather ever since.

Later in life, Brian graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in geography, concentrating his studies on climatology. A few years later, he returned to the classroom and earned a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Before his TV career, Brian worked as a meteorologist in just about every other type of media imaginable. He has provided forecasts and important weather information for radio, magazines, and even for his own telephone weather service for the Baltimore metropolitan area. Brian started his TV weather career at WMDT-TV in Salisbury, Md., nestled near the Maryland beaches of the mid-Atlantic. He has also worked for stations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia before coming to WXII-TV, including a 3-year stint as Chief Meteorologist for WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, W.Va.

Brian loves to talk about the weather -- just ask him! When he's not tracking storms, Brian enjoys traveling, playing and watching several sports, and spending time with friends and family. He and his wife Heather are proud to call North Carolina their home.
