San Francisco, CA -- (Sports Network) - J.T. O'Sullivan threw for 154 yards and one score on 8-of-17 passing to lead the San Francisco 49ers to a 34-6 romp over the Green Bay Packers in preseason play.O'Sullivan also had one interception, and Alex Smith went 5-for-12 passing for 62 yards. Josh Morgan caught five passes for 114 yards and a score for San Francisco (1-1), while DeShaun Foster ran for 37 yards and one touchdown on 11 attempts. Frank Gore had 29 yards rushing on six carries, while Vernon Davis caught a pair of passes for 29 yards for the Niners. "A win versus a good football team," said 49ers head coach Mike Nolan. "I'm pleased with that. We do want to keep in perspective that it was a preseason game although preseason games are important, naturally, in the development of the offense, defense and special teams, and the cohesiveness of the group." In his second game under center since taking the quarterback reigns from Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers completed 9-of-16 passes for 58 yards. In Green Bay's first preseason game, against Cincinnati, Rodgers completed 9-of-15 passes for 115 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The entire Packers offense was ineffective on Saturday. Kregg Lumpkin led Green Bay (0-2) with 51 yards rushing on 10 attempts, while Vernand Morency caught one pass for 20 yards. Mason Crosby had a pair of field goals to account for all the points. "Just to recap the game, I think the defense started strong, we gave ourselves a defensible position," said Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. "In the first- half, efficiency was not very good and that lasted the whole game. So, I think we have a long road to go. We have a lot of work to do before we get there." Crosby had the only points of the first quarter -- a 31-yard field goal with 1:53 remaining. But on their first drive of the second quarter, the Niners started to pile on points. O'Sullivan connected with Jason Hill on a pass for 27 yards and with Morgan for a 22-yard gain. Foster did the bulk of the running on the 15-play drive, then tumbled into the end zone from one yard out, putting San Francisco in front 7-3. After Green Bay punted, O'Sullivan went back to work and found Dominique Zeigler for 13 yards. In a pass-only drive, O'Sullivan connected with Morgan, who scampered 59 yards for the touchdown, and San Francisco went into halftime up 14-3. Joe Nedney and Crosby opened the second half scoring by trading 49-yard field goals. Later in the third frame, the rout continued as the Niners recovered a Packers fumble deep in Green Bay territory. Three plays later, Moran Norris capped the drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge. San Francisco led 24-6 heading into the final stanza, and got a 30-yard field goal from Ricky Schmitt with a little less than 10 minutes left. Later, Green Bay went three-and-out before punting, and Allen Rossum returned the kick 67 yards to the end zone to complete the scoring.
