Dolphins Release OL McKinney

POSTED: 3:00 pm EDT August 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Miami Dolphins have released offensive lineman Steve McKinney.

McKinney, a 10-year NFL veteran, was signed in May.

"When we brought Steve in we really took a look and, at this point, he wasn't where we thought we needed to have him, so we needed to move on," said Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano on Monday.

The 32-year-old McKinney suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in September of last season while playing for the Houston Texans and was placed on injured reserve.

Houston signed McKinney as a free agent in 2002 after he played four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He started all 16 regular season contests for the Texans from 2002-2005 and all three games last year before suffering the injury.

For his career, McKinney has appeared in 143 games with 133 starts as a center, left guard and right guard.
