Eagles Rally To Down Panthers In Preseason Action

POSTED: 12:21 am EDT August 15, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Eagles had a huge fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Carolina Panthers, 24-13, in a game marred by bad weather, including a rare lightning delay.

Neither team managed to score an offensive touchdown until the fourth quarter, when the Eagles scored 24 unanswered points to steal the game.

Jake Delhomme went 9-of-14 for 54 yards and an interception while DeAngelo Williams rushed for 32 yards on eight attempts for the Panthers (1-1), who managed only 207 total yards of offense in the game.

Donovan McNabb had a rough game, going 11-of-24 for 98 yards, failing to drive the team to any points while he played. Kevin Kolb started out slowly, but got going once the rain subsided. The second-round pick finished the game 14- of-27 for 155 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

DeSean Jackson shined again for the Eagles (1-1), catching seven passes for 71 yards. Greg Lewis added 44 yards and a touchdown on three catches while Tony Hunt added 88 total yards of offense and a score.

Philadelphia finally got on the board in the fourth. Kolb completed a six-play 69-yard drive, culminating with a perfect 33-yard bomb to Greg Lewis, getting the Eagles within six at 13-7.

After a fumble recovery deep in the Panthers zone, Philadelphia was able to get within three on a 40-yard field goal from Richmond McGee.

Tony Hunt capped off the comeback for the Eagles, rushing for a 51-yard touchdown with 2:15 left in the game to put Philadelphia up for good, 17-13.

The Eagles would add another score with 10 seconds left in the game, as Justin Roland returned an interception 74 yards to make the score 24-13.

The rainy weather accounted for a lack of offense, so Carolina's defense put the first points on the board. Sav Rocca threw an interception on a fake field goal attempt, and Richard Marshall returned the pick 78 yards for the touchdown.

John Kasay added a 28-yard field goal early in the second quarter to account for the 10-0 halftime score. He would add another field goal with 8:34 left in the game -- a 49-yarder -- to give the Panthers a 13-0 cushion.
