Eagles Place Jean-Gilles On IR

POSTED: 12:53 pm EST December 3, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Eagles have placed guard Max Jean-Gilles on injured reserve with a broken fibula.

Jean-Gilles, who went down with the injury in the Eagles' 48-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Thanksgiving night, has started the past 11 games in place of Pro Bowl guard Shawn Andrews, who is likely out for the season with a back injury.

Surgery for Jean-Gilles is set for sometime this week.

The Eagles signed tackle Chris Patrick from the practice squad to fill the roster spot.

Patrick, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound Nebraska product, spent the 2008 preseason with San Francisco and Detroit. He originally signed with the New York Giants as a rookie free agent in 2007, but was later released and claimed by New England that summer. He later landed on Green Bay's practice squad and eventually joined the Eagles practice squad on September 1.

The Eagles also signed tackle Tala Esera to their practice squad on Wednesday.

Esera, who started 35 games at the University of Hawaii, joined the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2007. He spent the 2008 preseason with the Indianapolis Colts before being released.
