Charlotte, NC -- (Sports Network) - The Carolina Panthers signed cornerback Chris Gamble to a six-year contract extension on Friday that will keep him with the team through the 2014 season.Scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, Gamble is having one of his most productive campaigns of his career as he has two interceptions, 70 tackles, a forced fumble, 17 passes defensed and one fumble return for a touchdown. "I like the organization, the city, the fans and my teammates," said Gamble. "I just feel very comfortable here. I love it here. I want to be a Panther." The 2004 first-round pick out of Ohio State has 327 tackles, 19 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, 43 passes defensed and one sack over his five seasons in the NFL, all with Carolina. "Chris is an extremely talented player and is playing at a high level," said Carolina general manager Marty Hurney. "He started his career with us and this extension is another step toward the possibility of his finishing his career as a Panther." The 25-year-old has started 67 of the 72 games he's played and his 19 interceptions rank second in team history.
